Advice & Assistance (Proposed)

We provide Free Advice on:

  • Housing & Homelessness Matters
  • Consumer & Utilities Queries
  • Debt and Money Advice
  • Education, Employment & Training
  • Translation & Interpreting Services (Bengali/Sylheti & English).

 

Elders Advocacy Services (Proposed)

This Services is specifically aimed at improving the quality of life of disadvantaged Bangladeshi elderly people aged 60 and above living in Tower Hamlets.

Through this project we provide the following activities for Bangladeshi elderly people:

  • Advice and information and advocacy on housing, pension matters, debt, utility queries.
  • Health awareness workshop focusing on healthy eating, disease prevention, safety in the home, mental health awareness.
  • Discrimination of bilingual information material about elderly rights and entitlements.
  • Translation and interpreting support, letter writing, making telephone calls on behalf of clients.
  • Outreach Work: home visits to elderly people at home.

Girls & Young Women's Project (Proposed)

We will run sessions on:

  • Evening Peer Education Programme – Confidence Building & Empowerment Training, Addressing Social & Family Issues.
  • Girls Youth Club
  • Employment Support Services – CV preparation, developing interview techniques, job search support.
  • ICT & Study Support Classes
  • Summer Holiday Play scheme
  • Annual Residential Programme
  • Indoor & Outdoor Games and Sports
  • Outings & Trips

Journey from Bangladesh to Birmingham

Aims of the Project:

The aims of the project over two years are to:

 

·This will involve recording narratives detailing the life experience of early settlersin Birmingham (Aston, Lozells & East Handsworth wards

 

·Our project intend to record memories of arrival in the UK and in particular finding homes in Birmingham, social life, employment, marriage, community development. We will record memories of struggle to fit in a new society, their struggle to preserve their culture, religious practices in a new environment.

 

·Through this project we aim to provide information and education to the wider community living in Birmingham and the Bengali Diaspora about Bangladeshi history, culture and heritage.

 

·This project also aims to reduce the isolation felt by elderly Bengali population in the area. In particular our project will try to reduce isolation of the female elderly Bengali population

 

·This project will involve and create volunteering opportunities amongst the young people which will equip them with many skills and resources.

 

·This project will create a bridge between old and new generation
